SIMI VALLEY : $1 Hikes in Monthly Trash Fees Approved

Share

Some Simi Valley residents will have to pay about $1 more a month in trash collection fees under a plan approved Monday night by the City Council.

The council approved the rate hike requests from American-Simi Rubbish Co. and Anderson Rubbish Co. following a public hearing.

An annual hearing is required to evaluate service and to consider any proposed rate increases or other changes in the companies’ contracts with the city.

Under the agreements approved Monday, American-Simi Rubbish, which serves about 24,000 customers, will be allowed to raise its monthly rate from $13 to $14.10. Its senior citizen rate will increase from $10.20 a month to $11.05 a month.

Anderson Rubbish, which serves 2,000 customers, will increase its monthly rate from $13 to $14.05, while senior citizen rates will jump from $10.20 a month to $11.05.

The trash haulers cited increased fuel costs and increases in tipping fees at the Simi Valley landfill as the primary reasons for the rate hikes. Dumping fees will increase from $30.10 to $34.60 per ton beginning Jan. 1.
