Attack on Steelers Fan Described at Hearing

A Pittsburgh Steelers fan was felled “like a tree” when he was struck by a Los Angeles Raiders fan during a game between the two teams at the Coliseum two months ago, a witness testified Monday.
The Raiders fan then “knelt down and hit the individual three more times,” Mark Zanelli, a fan at the Sept. 23 game, testified in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
Zanelli testified at a brief preliminary hearing at which Shane C. Geringer, 19, of Agoura Hills was ordered to appear for arraignment Friday on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury. The victim, Paul Albrecht, 35, of Tucson did not attend the hearing. He reportedly suffered a broken jaw and was hospitalized for more than a week after the incident. He has since recovered.
Geringer’s attorney, Leslie Abramson, has described her client as a “fanatic Raiders fan” who suffers from a drinking problem. Geringer has been free on bail since shortly after the attack.
