Honolulu became the first city to formally bid for games of the 1994 World Cup when it sent the organizing committee a $60,000 check along with an application for three first-round games.
The bid asked for games in Aloha Stadium, which seats 50,000. For football and has artificial turf that would have to be converted to grass to be selected.
