Flora A. Salmacia; Former Music Store Owner

Flora A. Salmacia, former owner of the Glendale Music Co., has died at her Newport Beach residence. She was 87.

Mrs. Salmacia died Dec. 6 of heart failure, said her son, Kenneth Salmacia.

Born April 1, 1903, in New York City, she came to California in the early 1920s. In 1925, she married Vincent Salmacia, who founded the Glendale Music Co. in Glendale in 1916. She worked for the musical equipment company in sales and management positions until her retirement in the early 1950s. The business, which currently has four locations, now is owned by her son.

Mrs. Salmacia, who was a longtime resident of Glendale before moving to Newport Beach in 1988, was a member of the Oakmont Country Club, the Tuesday Afternoon Club and the women’s auxiliary of the Elks Club.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Salmacia is survived by two sisters, Loretta Corcoran of Glendale and Gladys Watts of Gardena; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Her husband died in 1988.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2411 Montrose Ave. in Montrose, whereshe was a member. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale. Woods Glendale Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
