Monterey Park : Curbside Recycler Selected
The City Council on Tuesday selected Athens Disposal Co. of La Puente to handle curbside recycling for residential areas.
Each residence will be charged $1.21 on monthly water bills for the service, scheduled to begin April 1. Recyclables include newspaper, glass, aluminum cans and some plastic. Each residence will be provided with a 14-gallon container and an 18-gallon container.
However, the recycling program will accept “green waste”--tree branches and trimmings--only from city land, not from households. It also will recycle paper from City Hall. In addition, Athens has agreed to give Monterey Park 50% of the proceeds from the sale of recyclables, which the company said will net the city about $3,500 a month.
