Bellflower : School Dress Code Revised to Ban Gang, Drug Insignia

Share

Clothing and accessories such as gloves, bandannas and wristbands that indicate gang affiliations, depict sexually related or obscene gestures, or promote the use of drugs will be prohibited on Bellflower Unified School District campuses next year.

District board members have revised a year-old dress code by further defining what clothes and accessories will not be allowed on campus.

The new codes reads: “The board believes that the presence of certain types of clothing and attire can cause a substantial disruption of . . . instructional and other school activities.”

District spokesman Mike Pratt said the new code “gives more teeth (to the old dress code). The first code was not specific enough in what principals were allowed to do. This one gives principals greater latitude.”
