Japanese families welcomed home 151 hostages Wednesday with tears and flowers while government officials worked to secure the release of 51 other Japanese who remain in Iraq.

The 51 remaining hostages are employees of Iraqi companies and need a letter from their employers to get exit visas, Japan’s national television station, NHK, reported.

Several of the returning Japanese criticized the Japanese government for not doing enough to win their release.
