West Hollywood : Follow-Up on Dog’s Death

The West Hollywood Public Safety Commission has appointed a committee to follow up the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s investigation into the shooting last month of a homeless man’s dog by a sheriff’s deputy.
The commission appointed members Aslan Brooke and Ruth Williams to the committee after public discussions about the shooting in which more than 20 animal-rights activists spoke.
“People were very angry over what they believe was the wrongful death of the dog,” said Nancy Greenstein, a spokeswoman for the commission. The committee will examine the shooting and recommend ways to avoid such incidents in the future.
Activists claim that the deputy overreacted and sheriff’s officials say the deputy had no choice.
