Westwood : UCLA Gets $300,000 Grant
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has committed $300,000 to support minority student programs at UCLA’s John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management.
The foundation’s support, to be given in $100,000 installments over the next three years, will provide for several new initiatives to augment existing minority programs at the school.
Among the programs that will be supported by the Sloan grant are: a two-week program of instruction made available to minority students in preparation for courses in the first quarter of the Master of Business Administration degree program; curricular enrichment sessions in selected courses available to African-American, Latino and Native American MBA students, and an initiative to bring minority speakers to the UCLA campus.
The Sloan Foundation was established in 1934 by Alfred P. Sloan Jr., former chairman of General Motors Corp.
The Anderson School, which is involved in a several efforts to diversify its student population, will hold its annual MBA information day for minority applicants on Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UCLA Faculty Center. For more information, call 825-6121.
