High School Newspapers

How depressing to read of the demise of many high school newspapers because of budget cuts and apathy.

Once upon a time, as the article points out, almost every high school boasted a newspaper. During the 1930s, Los Angeles High published a daily newspaper. We were proud of the fact that the Blue and White Daily was the only daily high school newspaper in the country. The staff was under the direction of Miss Katherine Carr (sometimes called “Kitty” Carr, but never to her face) whose displeasure with poor writing struck more fear in our hearts than the editors we were to meet in our adult years.
