Richard Benner, 44, writer and director who created the films “Outrageous!” and “Too Outrageous!” depicting a homosexual’s friendship with a schizophrenic woman. In a favorable 1987 Los Angeles Times review of “Too Outrageous,” critic Kevin Thomas noted: “For all its humor and sentiment, Benner nevertheless acknowledges the specter of AIDS in the gay community in a way that anchors the film to reality.” Born in Sterling, Ill., Benner had lived for several years in Toronto. His other films include “London Drag” and “Happy Birthday Gemini.” On Dec. 2 in Toronto of AIDS.
