Pasadena : Northwest Plan to Get Chief

Share

The position of Northwest manager, to oversee rehabilitation of Pasadena’s largest minority neighborhood, has been created by the Board of Directors.

In 1985, Northwest Pasadena was slated to receive $35 million over five years in city money under the Northwest Community Plan. The plan was to improve streets, parks and lighting, repair homes, and spur business development. But only $25 million has been spent, most of it on routine maintenance.

The manager position, with a $63,767 annual salary, is an attempt to complete goals of the Northwest plan. Approval of the position allows the city to begin recruitment.

Mayor Jess Hughston, Vice Mayor Rick Cole and Director Chris Holden voted against the manager’s position, seeking a higher-level administrative director’s post that would have paid $73,019.
