OXNARD : 32 Arrested During Sobriety Checks

Thirty-two people were arrested in Oxnard and Ventura during the weekend in two separate sobriety checkpoint operations, the California Highway Patrol official reported Sunday.

In the first operation, the CHP and Oxnard police made 25 drunk-driving arrests Friday night and Saturday morning after checking 1,128 vehicles at the corner of Oxnard Boulevard and 1st Street, a CHP spokeswoman said.

A total of 53 drivers were tested on suspicion of drunk driving. Four others were arrested for outstanding warrants or other violations.

A second operation in Ventura resulted in the check of 1,001 vehicles at the corner of Main Street and Callens Road. Officers conducted 29 sobriety checks on drivers, and seven people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, the spokeswoman said.

The two operations took place between 8 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday, and again Saturday night to Sunday morning. The spokeswoman said other sobriety checkpoint operations were likely to continue through the new year.
