One man was killed and another seriously injured in an early morning traffic accident Sunday at Cerritos Avenue east of Holder Street, which police blamed on high-speed drunk driving.

The driver, Richard Gomez, 18, was hospitalized with a fractured hip and ankle at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He will be booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, a Cypress police official said.

Police said Gomez “was driving at a high speed while intoxicated” at 1:56 a.m. when his 1981 Green Chevrolet Monte Carlo left the road and hit a traffic signal pole.
