World : Bail for Kahane Suspect Pulled
A judge, disclosing that he had been threatened, today revoked $300,000 bail for the man accused of killing Rabbi Meir Kahane at a Manhattan hotel on Nov. 5.
State Supreme Court Justice Alvin Schlesinger believed that there was a strong likelihood that El Sayyid Nosair, 35, a native of Egypt, would flee. Among Schlesinger’s reasons was a passport Nosair held in a different name.
The judge also noted that officials had found some cyanide in Nosair’s locker where he worked as a city heating maintenance man. Schlesinger said the cyanide could be used to poison someone or commit suicide.
During the bail hearing, the judge also disclosed that he received numerous death threats and attempts to influence him via telephone messages and mail.
