Animal Rights Cited by Furrier in Chapter 11: Furrari Inc., a New York area fur retailer, in part blamed animal rights activists for its decision to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors. The company, which operates primarily through concessions at Alexanders and Lord & Taylor department stores, said it had assets of $13.5 million and liabilities of $22.7 million. “There has been great pressure on the fur industry from animal rights activists,” said Elliot I. Miller, a lawyer for the company, in its filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
