MOORPARK : Developer to Build Community Center

Share

Plans for a large shopping center in Moorpark have been approved by the City Council under the condition that the developer also builds a $1-million community center for the city.

Under the plan approved by the City Council Wednesday night, Santa Monica-based Urban West Communities will construct a 122,000-square-foot shopping center at the southwest corner of Tierra Rejada Road and Mountain Trail Street. The developer will also build an 8,000-square-foot community center at nearby Arroyo Vista Park.

The community center will include meeting rooms and a gymnasium that can also be used as a theater, said Tom Zanic, vice president of Urban West.

Zanic said he would meet with city officials in the coming weeks to discuss plans for the center. He said he did not know when construction would begin.

The developer probably will break ground in the spring on the shopping center, which will be next to Urban West’s Mountain Meadows subdivision, Zanic said. He said the plan is for the shopping center to open by December, 1991.
