Jane’s Fix on the ‘60s

Dressing down reached new heights at the Jane’s Addiction concerts at the Hollywood Palladium this week.
Lead singer Perry Farrell’s repeated references to the ‘60s from the stage were reflected in the audience; many dressed as if they had stumbled in from a San Francisco be-in.
This was not, however, an exercise in retro-fashion; liberal doses of the ‘70s punk look, along with such ‘90s details as baggy shorts over chopped-down leggings and long underwear and Doc Marten shoes with white socks, were added to the flower-child fashion base.
Considering that many fans paid scalpers up to $125 for a ticket, their overall scruffiness was probably not a reflection of their financial status, but a clear fashion choice.
During one concert, Farrell welcomed everyone to the ‘90s, except those wearing sneakers, which he declared remnants of the ‘70s. Later, the band’s triumphant return to L.A. was cut short when a fan threw a sandal--not a sneaker--at Farrell, causing him to leave the stage for good.
