Keeping Voice of Women Alive

This is to thank Times’ reporters Rose Ellen O’Connor and George Frank for their excellent article on the Commission on the Status of Women. That article brought us lots of attention and set the stage for your editorial, which followed.

We have received many supportive calls at our office, at my home, and, we are told, at the offices of the Board of Supervisors. Apparently many citizens, both women and men, hope we will continue to report on the status of women in this county.

We hope, too, that our work may proceed independently, so that the softer voice of women may not be lost in the clamor of others’ demands for community attention. This will be the result if the commission is disbanded and our work given to larger programs--such as Social Services, as is the latest proposal.
