Countywide : Yegan Is Sworn In as Associate Judge of Appellate Court
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Kenneth R. Yegan was sworn in Thursday as an associate justice of the 2nd District Court of Appeal after the Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed his nomination by Gov. George Deukmejian.
The commission, made up of California Supreme Court Chief Justice Malcolm Lucas, Atty. Gen. John K. Van De Kamp and Lester Roth, presiding judge of the 2nd District Court of Appeal,unanimously approved Yegan’s nomination during a meeting in Los Angeles.
Yegan, 43, replaces Justice Richard W. Abbe, who retired last month after eight years on the appeal court.
Yegan becomes one of 26 justices on the 2nd District Court of Appeal, three of whom are assigned to Division 6 in Ventura.
Division 6 considers appeals of cases originating in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Yegan, who lives in Thousand Oaks, has been a lawyer since 1972.
Former Gov. Jerry Brown appointed him to the Ventura County Municipal Court in 1983, and Deukmejian elevated him to the Superior Court bench in 1986.
Deukmejian has not appointed a replacement for Yegan on the Superior Court, a spokesman in the governor’s office said Thursday.
