With record-breaking cold temperatures in Southern California and even ice on sidewalks, freeways and parking lots, this might not be a bad time to consider a lesson in “layering.”
The outdoor clothing and equipment company REI is playing host to a free lecture at its San Dimas store on how to dress for success in the cold and how to layer thin--but warm--clothes instead of wearing one bulky garment.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, REI employee Kelley Penix will discuss how to stay warm without hindering one’s mobility, giving tips on what kinds of fabrics and clothes work best for different activities, such as hiking, walking, skiing and camping.
In the same vein next month, the store will sponsor talks on cold-weather backpacking; igloo and snow cave-building; snow-trekking adventures in Russia, and skiing in Alaska.
The store is at 602 Arrow Highway.
