Perret Down to 2 Chances in Bid to Set Stakes Record
Jockey Craig Perret, who is trying to set a record for stakes victories in a single season, had to settle for second behind winner Rough Rogue Saturday with Zee Best in the $75,000 Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct.
Rough Rogue, ridden by Jean-Luc Samyn, won by 1 1/4 lengths by covering the 1 1/16-mile race on a good track in 1:44 1/5. The victory was the third in a row and the fifth in 10 starts this year for Rough Rogue, who paid $10.80.
Saturday’s defeat left Perret with only two chances to eclipse Jorge Velasquez’s record of 57 stakes victories. He is scheduled to ride Twixt Appeal in today’s Ticonderoga Handicap and Power Lunch in Monday’s Display Handicap, both at Aqueduct.
