COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Madison Scores 41 to Propel Antelope Valley to Desert Title

Tony Madison scored 41 points, the most by an Antelope Valley College player in 20 seasons, to lead the Marauders to a 107-95 victory over College of the Desert in the championship of the Desert tournament Saturday night.

Antelope Valley led, 50-46, at halftime, but Desert tied the score, 87-87, with 3 minutes 26 seconds left. The Marauders went on a 9-0 run with Madison sinking five consecutive free throws to put the game out of reach.

Madison and J.R. Rider, who scored 32 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, were named tournament co-most valuable players for Antelope Valley (12-3), which eclipsed the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season and won its first tournament in three tries this season.

Rider tied a school record for most 30-point games in a season and is one away from the career record of seven.

WOMEN

Golden West 80, Valley 70 (2 OTs)--The Lady Monarchs (15-2) saw their 10-game winning streak end when they were outscored, 14-4, in the second overtime in a championship semifinal of the Fullerton tournament.

Eastern Michigan 78, Cal State Northridge 69--Northridge (4-10) hit just 13 of 33 shots from the field in the first half (39.4%) and trailed, 40-33, at intermission.

Riverside 71, Canyons 57--Kim Posey scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for Canyons (8-3) in a fifth-place semifinal of the Fullerton tournament.
