San Diego police arrested more people for driving under the influence in 1990 than the year before, but saw fewer fatal traffic accidents.
San Diego Police made 7,869 arrests for driving under the influence in 1990 as opposed to 7,583 arrests in 1989, a 3.8% increase, police spokesman Bill Robinson said Thursday.
But fatal accidents during that time decreased 18%.
In 1990, 83 accidents killed 86 people. In 1989, 98 fatal accidents caused 105 deaths.
