Censorship Issue

Regarding Chuck Philips’ “A War on Many Fronts,” Dec. 26:

Almost everyone believes in censorship. You think you don’t? Well, consider this:

Suppose that, say, 2 Live Crew’s album “As Nasty as They Wanna Be” didn’t merely tell of the joys of committing anal rape (which it does) or of the fun it would be to tear a woman’s vagina (which it does). Suppose, instead that member of 2 Live Crew disliked your wife, daughter or girlfriend and sang about the joy of abusing her sexually, including in the lyrics her description and address. You would quickly recognize the benefit of some censorship.

To condone a harmful or hateful message that doesn’t harm you , even though others may suffer, is the epitome of selfishness.
