A group of evangelical Christian leaders are endorsing a National Day of Prayer Jan. 12 for the Persian Gulf crisis. Some participants, including those in foreign countries, are planning to link up via phone and videotape with a Southern California prayer convocation to participate in one hour of prayer beginning at 11 a.m.

Redeem America, a group based in Orange County, which says it is dedicated to bringing America “back to her constitutional Judeo-Christian biblical moorings” is the sponsor. “People of faith who believe in the power of prayer including Protestants, Catholics, Jews and other faith groups are invited to participate,” said spokesman Ed Steele.

The day of prayer for national and world leaders, Desert Shield personnel and for the peace of Jerusalem has been endorsed by Pat Robertson of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Jerry Rose of the National Religious Broadcasters, Bill Bright of Campus Crusades and G. Raymond Carlson of the Assemblies of God, among others.
