COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : CCI Blows Lead, Is Defeated by Concordia Seward

Christ College Irvine blew a 14-point first-half lead and lost to Concordia Seward of Nebraska, 72-62, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday at Christ College.

Concordia Seward (10-4) trailed, 20-6, early in the first half before rallying. Devin Smith scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the first half as Concordia pulled to within two points, 29-27, at halftime.

“We kind of fell apart a bit and helped them,” CCI Coach Greg Marshall said. “We made some key turnovers.”

Christ College (6-10) shot 72% in the first half. Ian Donnelly scored 20 points and Brian Hazelwood added 15 for Christ College.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Pacific 73, Cal State Fullerton 68--Genia Miller had 35 points and 13 rebounds for Fullerton (8-3, 1-1 in the Big West), but the Titans lost in Stockton. Tine Freil had 24 points and eight rebounds and Charlene Alden had 18 points for Pacific (6-5, 1-1).

Miller made 14 of 20 shots and seven of eight from the free-throw line. Joey Ray had 15 points, and Claudette Jackson added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Titans, who trailed, 38-34, at halftime.

Christ College Irvine 67, St. Petersburg (Fla.) JC 48--Center Gitte Mejer had 17 points for visiting Christ College Irvine (7-2). Forwards Lauren Rich and Nancy Geisler added 12 each.
