Newby-Fraser’s Honor Was Worthy of Mention
While no list ever seems to be complete, your “San Diego Sports in Review: 1990” (Dec. 31) missed what, judging by your own list, was the single most important honor given to a San Diego athlete in 1990:
Oct. 15, 1990, New York City: Ironman triathlete Paula Newby-Fraser named Sudafed Professional Sportswoman of the Year by Women’s Sports Foundation.
This is the most prestigious international award given to women athletes and, especially considering the lack of success for sports in San Diego, is a highlight.
