United Airlines to Set Up New Zealand Hub: The carrier said that as part of an August expansion into the Pacific it will establish a mini-hub in Auckland, New Zealand, increase service to Australia and offer nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Auckland and between San Francisco and Shanghai. United’s transpacific business grew 32% last year. The expansion move appears to take advantage of a weak Continental Airlines, which flies to New Zealand and Australia but has filed for bankruptcy protection.
