A pair of apparently unrelated shootings left two Orange County men wounded Sunday, one of them in critical condition. Police had no suspects in the incidents, one of which involved a robbery at the victim’s home, and only sketchy descriptions of the assailants.

Police were also investigating two other armed robberies Sunday, one in Yorba Linda and the other in Huntington Beach.

In the residential shooting, police said, Lenin Garcia Suarez, 31, of Tustin was wounded in the chest by two robbers who had broken into his home at 14271 Green Valley St. The robbers forced their way inside at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, and Suarez scuffled with them briefly, police said.

Suarez collapsed after he was shot. Before fleeing, the two grabbed a portable stereo and television set. Police said the robbers were in their 20s and were wearing dark clothes.

Suarez was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was reportedly in serious condition Sunday, recovering from surgery. A hospital spokeswoman said the surgery had gone well, and Suarez was expected to recover.

The victim of an attack in Orange, however, was faring less well. That victim, Rohery Wychgel, was shot as he walked from his home in the 3800 block of East Dorothy Lane to his car, police said.

As he approached his car, Wychgel, 25, of Orange, “confronts or is confronted by the suspects,” said Sgt. Steve Ames of the Orange Police Department. “During the confrontation, he is shot.”

The motive in that attack was unknown, police said, partly because they were not able to interview Wychgel. He was unconscious when police arrived and was rushed to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

“He’s out of surgery,” a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon. “But he’s in critical condition.”

Descriptions of the assailants were sketchy, as witnesses could recall only that there appeared to be two of them, both men with medium to heavy builds. One was wearing a white T-shirt and the other dark clothing and a dark baseball cap, police said.

The assailants, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, fled the scene in a dark-colored Chevy Monte Carlo or similar two-door vehicle, with shiny rims and wheels, police added.

In the Yorba Linda incident, three men held up a Domino’s Pizza at 4973 Yorba Ranch Road just after midnight Saturday. One of the suspects was armed with a blue-steel handgun, said Brea Police Sgt. Les Mesa. Brea police handle calls from Yorba Linda.

The gunman demanded all the money in the store, and the two employees who were present complied. Before leaving with the cash, the robbers ordered the employees to “count to 200” before calling police, authorities said.

The employees were unharmed, but the robbers escaped with the store’s cash, officials said. The manager at the Domino’s on Sunday declined to say how much money was lost.

Witnesses provided police with detailed descriptions of the three robbers.

The first was said to be a male Latino about 18 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and a thin mustache. He was wearing a bulky black jacket and black baseball cap with an Orlando Magic logo.”

The second was described as a black man, 20 years old, 6 feet 5, 170 pounds. He was wearing black sunglasses and a black jacket. The third man, also black man, was described as 22 years old, 6 feet 2, 210 pounds. He too was wearing a thick black jacket and baseball cap, this one with an ASU logo.”

All three suspects were thought to have left the scene in a green-colored Jeep.

In the Huntington Beach holdup, a pair of robbers, one with a handgun, escaped with cash and a car. The victim was identified as Wayne Haskell, 20, of Huntington Beach.

The robbers accosted Haskell at 8:45 p.m. Saturday as he approached the automatic teller machine at the First Interstate Bank branch at 7902 Edinger Ave., according to Police Sgt. John Arnold.

One demanded Haskell’s wallet and his car keys. He turned them over, and one of the two fled in Haskell’s car, a 1990 maroon Toyota Corolla.

Haskell followed on foot as they headed south on Beach Boulevard, police said, and watched as the other assailant jumped into a gray Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
