Patriots Expected to Name MacPherson Coach Today
Syracuse Coach Dick MacPherson is expected to accept the job as coach of the New England Patriots today. The Patriots have scheduled a news conference for this morning, and NBC and CBS both reported Sunday MacPherson would get the job.
MacPherson, 60, would become the Patriots’ fifth coach in 10 years, replacing Rod Rust, who was fired Friday after one season. The team went 1-15, tying an NFL record for most losses in a season.
MacPherson, before his 11 seasons at Syracuse, was an assistant coach with the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns. He was also the head coach at the University of Massachusetts for three seasons.
