Putting its cost at $400 million, Caltrans officials signed a contract Monday to make concrete plans for a 10-mile, four-lane toll road in southern San Diego County.
The agreement enables the developer, a business consortium called California Transportation Ventures, to begin the detailed environmental review the state requires of transit projects, Caltrans officials said. Construction is due to be completed in December, 1995, and the road would cost commuters about $1 to use, the company’s officials have said previously.
The project would take the proposed California 125 south of the Sweetwater Reservoir, near California 54, to the international border crossing on Otay Mesa. The road would run through some of the most desirable land slated for development in the South Bay.
