COUNTYWIDE : Riley Recuperating, Eager to Take Oath

County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley, who underwent open heart surgery on New Year’s Eve, was released from the hospital Friday and said he planned to take his oath of office for a new term next week.

Christie McDaniel, an executive assistant to the supervisor, said he was tired from the ordeal but looking forward to returning to work. Riley, 78, had a quadruple bypass operation at Hoag Hospital after tests revealed that the blood vessels around his heart were partially blocked.

Although Riley was resting Wednesday evening, McDaniel released a written statement from the supervisor in which he cautioned that his doctors have told him to gradually resume his full workload. “I plan to follow those orders,” Riley said.
