Share

Three men who shot and killed a bighorn sheep in the San Gabriel Mountains last summer were placed on two years’ probation last week after pleading no contest to violating fish and game laws.

The three were also ordered by West Covina Municipal Court Commissioner Harold Mulville to pay $1,175 in fines and penalties or perform 150 hours of community service with the Department of Forestry, and to make restitution in an amount to be determined by the state Department of Fish and Game.

Tom Troxell, 30, of Huntington Park and Alan Rosado, 28, of Valinda pleaded no contest to taking a protected mammal. Donald Kolath, 28, of Cudahy pleaded no contest to the unlawful possession of a mammal. All three pleaded no contest to unlawfully discharging a firearm.

The misdemeanor charges stemmed from the fatal shooting last Aug. 19 of a bighorn sheep, a protected species, in the East Fork area of San Gabriel Canyon north of Azusa.
