El Monte : $2,200 to Help Bike Patrol
The City Council on Tuesday approved $2,200 to provide the Police Bicycle Patrol with three additional bicycles.
Since the program started in November, officers have made more than 70 arrests, for offenses ranging from writing graffiti to selling drugs, police officials said.
The department will now have six bicycles for use by the six pedaling officers, who also handle other duties in the Community Relations Unit.
