For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

You can begin planting gladiolus bulbs now if your local area is not affected by freezes. Otherwise, wait until spring after the last freeze.

Plant some perennial vegetables--artichokes, asparagus and rhubarb--from divisions.

Lilies are available for planting now. Be sure to give them a location with good drainage.

Don’t throw away potted chrysanthemums once their color fades. Cut the chrysanthemum back to six inches, and plant it out in the garden for bloom in 1991.
