Arts Budget Cut Proposed: Gov. Pete Wilson has proposed a California Arts Council budget of $16.4 million for 1991-92, which represents a cut of $586,000, or 4% less than the arts agency’s 1990-91 budget. The reduction comes from a 4% mandatory across-the-board cut in state dollars. While Robert Reid, director of the CAC, pointed out that the proposal is “only the beginning of the process” and must now go to the state legislature for review, he called it “a positive sign” considering the state’s current economic forecast. If approved, the 4% cut would mean $517,000 less in arts grants and $69,000 less toward CAC operations.
