Ameritech: The Chicago-based parent of five Bell companies serving the Great Lakes region and other information-related companies said fourth-quarter net income declined 14% to $286.8 million, compared to year-earlier figures, due to investments in the Bell companies, international expansion efforts and business development activities at Ameritech Mobile Communications. Revenue for the quarter was $2.7 billion, an increase of 4% from the same period a year ago. For the year, earnings edged up 1% to $1.3 billion. Revenue for the year was $10.7 billion, a gain of 4%, which the firm said reflects continuing growth in its regulated and unregulated businesses.
