Share

College View School will hold a formal opening of its new after-school day-care program for developmentally disabled children today.

The program, which began operating at the facility for handicapped students last September, is based on a model developed by the Easter Seal Society. It is funded by the nonprofit Lanterman Regional Center and donations from local Century 21 offices.

Care for children from Burbank, Glendale and La Crescenta is provided after school from 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The children participate in recreational activities designed to reinforce their school programs.

The program is the first of its kind in Glendale. In addition, the school, 1700 Mountain St., provides a similar program for developmentally disabled adults on Saturdays.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian, singer Pat Boone and actors Dick Van Patten and Bernie Kopell will participant. Center activities may be observed from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
