Two suspected PCP makers led sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase Wednesday from Castaic to South-Central Los Angeles until their van crashed on a Harbor Freeway off-ramp.

Deputies arrested the pair and two others in a car that had appeared to meet the men in Castaic. The four were being held in lieu of $2-million bail each at the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station on suspicion of possession of PCP for sale.

The two men in the van refused to give their names, Deputy Bill Linnemeyer said. Those in the car were identified as Edward Dickerson, 29, of Rialto and Ernest Ricks, 20, of El Segundo.

The incident began when deputies saw a white car followed by a van pull into a fast-food restaurant on Lake Hughes Road in Castaic at 12:11 a.m. The car, which had no license plate, was stopped as it pulled onto the southbound Golden State Freeway after it left the restaurant.

Meanwhile, deputies also halted the van because it allegedly ran a stop sign as it headed for the freeway. But as the officers emerged from their car, the van sped off.

The van, traveling at speeds of up to 85 m.p.h., drove along the Golden State Freeway to the Pasadena Freeway, then headed south on the Harbor Freeway, deputies said. As it sped down the Slauson Avenue off-ramp, it struck a guard rail, went over an embankment and slammed into a tree. The men were not injured.

Two 55-gallon drums containing what deputies said were chemicals used in the manufacture of PCP were found in the van. Linnemeyer said possession of the chemicals is legally sufficient to bring charges of possession of the drug for sale.

The off-ramp was closed for several hours as a precaution after a mist was seen coming from one of the containers. A Los Angeles Fire Department hazardous materials team was sent to the scene to dispose of the drums.
