THOUSAND OAKS : Museum Will Move to Mall Next Month

The Conejo Valley Art Museum is scheduled to move to a new home in the Janss Mall in mid-February, a museum official said Wednesday.

The Thousand Oaks City Council unanimously approved the move Tuesday night after Janss Corp. officials asked the city to make minor reductions in municipal parking requirements to accommodate the museum.

Officials at the 12-year-old museum were told to leave their current location at 191 W. Wilbur Road after the city sold the building to a Thousand Oaks dentist late last year.

The museum was threatened with closure until last month, when Janss officials offered to donate about 4,000 square feet of space at the mall at 215 N. Moorpark Road, said Maria Dessornes, museum president.

Ironically, Janss Mall was the first home for the museum when it opened in 1978.

“We’re very pleased, and I think it will be very good for the museum to continue,” she said.

“We’d hate for it after 12 years to cease.”

The museum may be able to hold its first exhibit at the Janss Mall in March, Dessornes said.
