Youth Theater : Willie Wonka Gets a Run
“Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” a musical version of Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” opens at 7 p.m. tonight at the Moonlight Amphitheatre’s Indoor Winter Playhouse in Vista. The youth theater production runs for eight performances through Jan. 27.
“Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” takes audiences on a musical journey through Wonka’s magical factory and features the music of Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Songs include, “Cheer Up Charlie,” “Pure Imagination” and “Oompa-Loompa.”
Carlsbad actor Brian Macrae plays Willie Wonka, and 10-year-old Vista resident Derek Brener portrays Charlie. The cast also includes 28 North County students ranging in age from 8 to 17.
Show times are 7 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Other performances will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 24-26, and at 2 p.m. Jan. 27.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for juniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the amphitheatre box office Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
