Trustees OK Study for Proposed Arena
As expected, the California State University Board of Trustees unanimously voted Wednesday to support a supplemental environmental impact report for a proposed student activities center on the San Diego State campus, SDSU Athletic Director Fred Miller said.
The action came at the board’s bi-monthly meeting in Long Beach. The supplemental EIR was ordered last March by San Diego Superior Court Judge Ronald Johnson, who responded to college area homeowners’ concerns that traffic from the student activities’ center would impact their neighborhood.
The Board of Trustee’s decision today clears SDSU to start planning for the arena unless the homeowners take the matter back to court--which appears likely.
“It is very probable it will go to court,” said Gwen Thomas, an Alvarado Estates homeowner who is part of the group opposing the arena.
