Seal Beach Businessman Named to Head California Arts Council : Election: Bryan Littlefield is a supporter of community groups in Long Beach, but has no ties to Orange County organizations.
Beer distributor Bryan (Whitey) Littlefield of Seal Beach was unanimously elected here Friday as chairman of the California Arts Council.
The 58-year-old Democrat, once a Golden Gloves boxer, was named to the council in 1985 by then-Gov. George Deukmejian. He is general manager of Somerset Distributors Inc. in Carson.
Littlefield, a 20-year Long Beach resident until about 18 months ago, is a former member of the Fine Arts Affiliates of Cal State Long Beach and the Long Beach Symphony board of directors.
He is a major supporter of several Long Beach charities and some arts organizations, but has no affiliation or involvement with the Orange County arts community, he said.
Council chairmen typically serve two years.
During its regular quarterly meeting, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the council also voted to list Irvine classical Indian dancer Ramya Harishankar on its Touring Artists Directory for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. The council will reimburse performing arts organizations in the state that present artists on the roster.
Harishankar, director of the Arpana Dance Company, will tour as a soloist. She was the only Orange County artist to apply for the subsidies.
