THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : Fax Service
Americans reached U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf with a free fax service that has transmitted 73,000 messages in the past two weeks. Operation Desert Fax, sponsored by American Telephone & Telegraph Co., transmits about 5,000 faxes each week. The faxed messages reach the troops in 48 hours, compared to the two-week journey for mail.
