From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Moroccan courts sentenced 111 people to prison terms of 15 days to 12 years for taking part in nationwide riots last month. The convictions bring to more than 300 the number of people sentenced in King Hassan II’s crackdown since the rioting, which claimed at least five lives. The riots came during a general strike Dec. 14, called by the North African country’s two leading labor unions to press demands for a higher minimum wage.
