Stores Sued Over Betty Boop T-Shirts: Hearst Corp., King Features Syndicate division and Fleischer Studios sued 40 Los Angeles stores that sell T-shirts featuring the Betty Boop cartoon character. The federal suit accuses the stores of copyright infringement, false designation of origin and unfair competition. It said the stores have sold Betty Boop T-shirts without its permission. The suit also asks for an accounting of profits from the shirts, damages of $100,000 from each store and punitive damages of $1 million. (Case No. 91-0290. Filed Jan. 17).
