Lesbian Reservist

Share

When Donna Jackson, a reservist scheduled to leave for the Persian Gulf, told the commanding general that she was a lesbian, he sent her to an Army psychiatrist (Jan. 12). She said the psychiatrist found her “normal.” I beg to differ.

Anyone in her situation cannot be normal. This is a woman who would fight and die for this country. She would fight and die for a country that does not protect her under the law. She would fight and die for a country that denies her right to love. She would fight and die or a country that bans her from holding the very job she has. She would fight and die for a country in which she “is inconsistent with military service.” This kind of patriotism is not normal. This kind of patriotism is above and beyond the call of duty.
