SHORT TAKES : ‘Dynasty’ Oversold, Co-Star Says

“Dynasty” was “merchandised to death,” according to its co-star John Forsythe, who said that he and Linda Evans only “made a dribble of money” on the perfumes Forever Krystle and Carrington and other promotional tie-ins.

“The last three years, ‘Dynasty’ was appalling,” Forsythe says in a Sunday issue of Parade. “The show should have been nurtured and cherished and loved. But no one was watching the store.”

Referring to the merchandising, Forsythe said, “Joan (Collins), shrewd as she was, wasn’t part of the deal, so she made deals on her own and got rich.”

Asked to comment on his two co-stars, Forsythe said: “Joan is a mixed bag. She’s talented and she made an immense contribution. Actors will always work with anyone who has talent.”

Concerning Evans, he was more enthusiastic. “Linda is a lovely woman,” he said. “Not a pretense of a woman.”
