SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Residents Resort to Permit Parking

Share

Residents of a neighborhood that has been plagued by overflow parking from Capistrano Valley High School won permission from the City Council to allow parking by permit only on their streets.

Because the students driving cars to the high school outnumber available parking spaces, students park on nearby Country Hills Road, Wildwood Lane and Highland Way. Residents complain that the vehicles block driveways and prevent them from parking in front of their own homes.

At first, signs on the street prohibited parking during school hours. But because some residents were receiving tickets for violating this rule, they asked that permit parking stickers be issued instead.

A neighborhood in south Mission Viejo near Saddleback College has used the same method with success, said William M. Huber, director of engineering and building for the city.

And to solve the school parking problem, a new parking lot is planned to be built as part of an ongoing expansion.
